The Raptors came out on top over visiting Genesee United Thursday night by a score of 4-2. The win moves Albion up to secondplace in this season's RDYSL standings.
The Raptors came out strong, dominating possession in the first 45, scoring all four of their goals. Nikki Creasey opened up the scoring, with an assist from Abby Scanlan. Creasey received the ball with her back to goal, turned on her defender and put a perfectly placed shot upper 90. Doubling their lead was Halee Passarell. Olivia Radford held up the ball in the corner, beat her defender and put a cross in to Creasey. Creasey put a one-time, volley pass wide out to Passarell, who beat her defender and Genesee's keeper to score.
Next to get on the scoresheet was Alezya Brown. Passarell wont the ball in the midfield and put a perfectly placed ball over top of Genesee's centerback and right onto Brown as she had a one-time finish to bring Albion's lead to 3-0. Finishing up the scoring for the Raptors was another goal from Passarell. She forced a turnover along her sideline and beat her defender inside before putting a great shot far post over the keepers hands.
Battling the heat with a short bench caused fatigue to set in the second half, as Genesee United was able to cut the Raptors' lead in half. Their first goal came off a cross, after defending the initial attempt, Genesee had a trailing runner through the middle who was able to put on past Raptors goalkeeper, Aly Knaak. Their second goal came after capitalizing on a broken play in the box.
Genesee came close to cutting Albion's lead to one late in the game. Genesee's forward was wide open in the box, and after collecting a rebound, had almost a whole net to score, but Knaak came across and made a big 1v1 save to hold Genesee to 2.
The Raptors now have a 2 week break before having another game. They'll travel to Penfield Town Hall on July 15 to face off against the current RDYSL frontrunner, the Penfield Stikers.
