The Albion Raptors started their 2019-2020 indoor season with a definitive win over Greece United FC, with a final score of 5-2. Tonight's game was the first of the inaugural season at the new Glacier Ridge Sports Park.
Albion came out quick early, dominating the game and maintaining possession. Newcomer, Alezya Brown, opened up the scoring early in the first half. Grace Levett, also a new member of the team, started the play with a pass inside to Ella Fadale. Fadale was able to slot a through ball in for Brown to run on to for the breakaway, when she buried her shot far post. Maija Young doubled the lead, with another assist from Fadale. It would be Young again scoring the eventual game-winner, after Mackenzie Harmon sent her a through ball to get her in 1v1 with the Greece goalkeeper. Before the end of the half, Greece was able to get two goals on the board, after sneaking one by Raptors goalkeeper Lauren Wehling, and finishing a tough angle shot just before halftime.
It looked as though GUFC would continue their momentum coming into the second half, but Albion's defense was able to hold them off. Wehling came up big with two 1v1 saves to keep the lead. The Raptors were finally able to get some breathing room with a great goal from Fadale, completing her four point night. Levett added her second assist with a pass inside to Fadale, she was able to take the ball through the back line and finish with a far post shot. Abby Scanlan was last to get on the scoreboard adding the insurance goal. Building from the back, defender Lily Miller passed the ball up line to Young, who was able to beat her defender end line and sent a cross to the back post. Scanlan made a great run from the midfield, putting her in the perfect place to knock in Young's cross.
Albion continues their Glacier Ridge Soccer League play next Saturday at 9:00 PM, facing off against the Hilton Heat.
