The Albion Raptors kicked off their first game of another session in the Glacier Ridge Soccer League, falling to Syracuse DA by a score of 2-1.
Most of the game remained even, with neither team getting too many looks at goal. It was Syracuse who would find the back of the net first almost halfway through the game. The Syracuse midfielder was able to take the ball inside and hit a shot far post from about 20 yards out over goalkeeper, Lauren Wehling's, head.
The Raptors were able to get the equalizer in the second half, off a goal from Abby Scanlan. The play started when Mack Harmon played a ball outside to T'Mia Kitchings, who was making a run from defense. Kitchings was able to take the ball forward to beat one girl, before playing the ball back inside to Harmon. Harmon kept the ball moving inside to Claire Squicciarini, who chipped a ball over the defense for Scanlan to run onto and get in 1v1 for the goal. Syracuse was able to get the momentum back quick though, after taking the lead back within a few minutes. With a Syracuse midfielder open in the middle of the field, she was able to play her forward at the top of the box and she finished her shot just inside of the post, just out of Wehling's reach.
The Raptors will continue GRSL play next Sunday, February 16 against a to be determined opponent and at a to be determined time.
