After going down 1-0, the Albion Raptors fought back to earn a 1-1 tie with Lakefront SC in Sunday's RDYSL match-up.
A slow first half punished the Raptors, as Lakefront was able to strike first. With a free kick from about thirty yards out, the Lakefront midfielder was able to put her shot in far post. After the goal, Albion was a little shaken, and Lakefront was almost able to double their lead. A shot in the box was heading in, but goalkeeper, Lauren Wehling, was able to get a touch on it to send it in to the crossbar and keep the Raptors in the game. Despite being down, Albion still had more quality scoring opportunities. Abby Scanlan and Kendall Derisley each had solid crosses through the box, but no one was able to get on the other end of it.
Picking it up in the second, the Raptors started to dominate the game. Mariah Plain had the first chance to tie the game with a well-struck shot, which unfortunately hit right off the crossbar and Albion was not able to out in the rebound. Eventually, it was Scanlan who was able to get the equalizer. After Plain got the ball in the midfield, she dropped a ball in over top of the Lakefront defense to send Scanlan in for the breakaway. Staying composed, Scanlan passed the ball into the corner past the Lakefront keeper to tie the game up. After Scanlan got in again for a breakaway and was taken down from behind, the Raptors had a chance to take the lead with a free kick right outside the box. With Plain on the ball, she went for her shot, but luck wasn't on her side as her shot went right off the crossbar for the second time in the half.
With three more game left in their RDYSL season, the Albion Raptors now sit at 5-3-1 in fourth place. They're right back in action on Tuesday, July 16 at 6:30 PM against Victor SC.
